For some children, finding the words to express it is the difficult part.
Not because there is nothing to say — but because expressing it can be harder.
Communication skills affect how children participate, connect and share what matters to them.
Assessment and therapy can identify the right skills to strengthen and the right next step.
You do not need to know the diagnosis or clinical terminology. Start with the experience, and the appropriate assessment can help determine what comes next.
Speech-language pathology reaches far beyond pronunciation. It can support how people speak, understand, read, write, use their voice, communicate socially, organize thoughts and swallow — across the lifespan.
Speech therapy is provided by a speech-language pathologist (S-LP) who works with children and adults experiencing communication or swallowing difficulties. Depending on the person, this may involve spoken or written language, speech clarity, stuttering, voice, reading, cognitive communication or swallowing. The S-LP assesses the concern, explains what is happening and develops an appropriate treatment plan.
Early difficulties with speaking or understanding language can affect learning, reading, writing and social communication. When concerns are identified earlier, families can better understand what their child needs and begin appropriate support sooner.
Communication challenges can affect relationships, education, work, independence and quality of life. Adults may also need support after stroke, brain injury or neurological change, or for voice, fluency, swallowing, accent and professional communication goals.
We use individualized assessment and evidence-informed clinical techniques while considering the person's goals, communication environments, family or caregiver context and other factors that may influence progress. The goal is a plan that makes sense for the person — not simply a diagnosis on paper.
Support can focus on voice, fluency, accent modification, professional communication and gender-affirming communication goals — because communication is personal at every stage of life.
Call us or send us a message. You do not need to figure out the clinical terminology first — tell us what is happening and we will help you figure out the right next step.
